Polish voice in La Scala

Aleksandra Kurzak will perform songs by eight Polish composers, including Fryderyk Chopin, on the stage of the famous opera Teatro alla Scala in Milan on February 21.

Our famous soprano singer performed a programme of twenty-seven works composed by fifteen composers from various countries. More than half of the compositions are by Polish artists: Fryderyk Chopin, Mieczysław Karłowicz, Witold Lutosławskieg, Stanisław Moniuszko, Stanisław Niewiadomski, Ignacy Paderewski, Ludomir Różycki and Władysław Żeleński.

Kurzak sang in La Scala three songs by Chopin: The Wish Op. 74 No. 1 (lyrics by Stefan Witwicki), The Lithuanian Song Op. 74 No. 16 (lyrics by Ludwik Osiński) and The Handsome Lad Op. 74 No. 8 (lyrics by Józef Bohdan Zaleski). The artist was accompanied by pianist Eric Schneider.

In 2009 Aleksandra Kurzak, with the baritone singer Mariusz Kwiecień and Argentinian pianist Nelson Goerner, recorded for the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw a set of Songs by Chopin. The album belonging to the black series "The Real Chopin" in May 2010 received prestigious title Diapason d'or du mois awarded by the French magazine "Diapason".
