Chopin in New Delhi

Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, during his visit in India concluded on the 26th of November participated in a special concert constituting one of the most important events in the Chopin Year in the mentioned country.

The event took place in the cycle titled "Universal Chopin". It was divided into two parts: recital of the outstanding pianist Marek Drewnowski, who performed Fryderyk Chopin compositions, and next, spectators admired the performance of the Indian group of modern dance Natya Stem Dance Kampni directed by the well-known dancer and choreographer, Madhu Nataraj, who prepared a programme inspired by Fryderyk Chopin’s music.

The minister Bogdan Zdrojewski commented on the dancing part of the event. He noticed that this type of artistic performances enjoy widespread interest, but also uneasiness. The source of this uneasiness stems from doubts if Chopin is well understood in such cases, and if the dignity of his works is properly respected. However, the head of the Polish Ministry of Culture underlined that it is worth experimenting because that is how spectators become more aware of diversified world of cultures and real existing barriers among them. At the concert, Indian propagators of Polish culture were honored by the Polish Minister with silver medals "Gloria Artis" and distinctions "For Merits to Polish Culture" (pl. "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej".)
