Chopin's month in Armenia

In Armenia November is the month of celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth.

Cultural events dedicated to the Polish composer have been prepared on the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Yerevan initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia and the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan. Mrs. Rita Sargsjan, the First Lady of Armenia is the honorary patron of the celebrations.

A concert opening Chopin Year in Armenia took place on the 1st of November in the Aram Chaczaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan. Zemfira Barsegjan and Armen Babachanjan, two Armenian pianists, performed Chopin compositions: Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise brillante in E-flat major op. 22 and the Piano Concerto in E minor op.11. The artists performed with the Armenia State Youth Orchestra conducted by Ruben Asatrjan

During 4 – 9 November, in the Chaczaturianm Museum, the Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for young Armenian pianists took place. There were 24 participants. The event was accompanied by two concerts: piano recital by Lusine Chaczaturian (Khachaturyan)the 3rd prize winner in the 2nd European Piano Competition in Normandy in 2009, and the participant of the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, 2010. Winners' concert took place on the last Competition day in the Armenia National Gallery. It was followed by Jerzy Antczak's film "Chopin. Desire for Love".
