Chopin at the Open'er Festival

The official website of the Chopin Year – chopin2010.pl – was present at the Open’er Festival in the Polish coastal city of Gdynia. Thousands of young people flocked to our stand set up in the NGO section in the course of three days.

We talked to the visitors about Chopin doing away with the stereotypical ways of perceiving the composer. We also invited our guests to take an active part in the Chopin Year celebrations and get involved in the various competitions run by  chopin2010.pl and the website chopinium.pl.

Apart from our stand, Chopin also made his presence at the festival musically. On the second day of the event, pianist Marek Drewnowski gave a 20-minute recital featuring Chopin music, directly preceding the day’s major attraction – the concert from the UK’s band Massive Attack. What is more, when on stage, the band’s leader 3D (Robert Del Naja) reminded the crowds of fans about the composer’s 200th birth anniversary.
