- Kordegarda CHOPIN 2010
"Chopin in Five Continents" is an attempt at a cross-cultural meeting revolving around selected works by the famous Polish composer.
The compositions featured bring together the variety of instruments used in the world’s ethnic music, classical music and European folk music. The project also brings together popular themes of different continents’ traditional music and Chopin’s compositions, and attempts to take his music into the 21st century Paris. It is a musical tour of imagination exploring what could be Chopin’s experiences if he found himself in Paris 180 years after the time when he actually sought exile in the city. What music would he listen to, and what music would consequently inspire his work? What instruments could he discover? Today’s Paris is a cultural melting point, where you may listen to Persian, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and South American music, to name just a few. The project is a journey in time and space, a musical tale of melodies and instruments originating in five different continents, their beauty and the universality, which makes it possible to combine them with Chopin’s music.
In June 2010 the album ranked 5th in the prestigious World Music Charts Europe of the European Broadcasting Union
