Conclusion of the Chopin Year in Lithuania

In the Concert Hall of the Balys Dvarionas School of Music in Vilnius gala closing of the celebrations of the Chopin Year in Lithuania took place on March 14.

At the celebrations Polish state distinctions together with letters of recognition were awarded by Bogdan Zdrojewski the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The artistic part of the evening covered a concert of Fryderyk Chopin and Balys Dvarionas’s compositions, and two dedicated to Chopin compositions by young Lithuanian composers: Vaida Striaupaites-Beinarienes and Simas Szakenisa. The Balys Dvarionas School of Music was chosen as the location for the event in recognition of its particular engagement in the jubilee educational projects.

The distinctions "For Merits to Polish Culture" (pl. "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej") were awarded to Arūnas Gelūnas the Minister of Culture of Lithuania, Francois Laumonier and Miyoko Akashi, ambassadors of France and Japan in Lithuania, Ruta Prusevičienė director of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, Romualdas Budrys  director of the Lithuanian Museum of Art, and pianists: Veronika Vitaitė and Szviese Čepliauskaitė. Written letters of recognitions were handed to eight people: ambassadors, representatives of the local self-governments in Lithuania, Lithuanian composers, pianists, journalists.
