Festival with Chopin accent

On February 26 and 27, in the third edition of the festival MAZOVIA GOES BAROQUE the band Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien will perform in Warsaw. The group presents influence of French court music on the work of the 19th century European composers.

Artists will perform among others one of two Bourrées by Fryderyk Chopin.

Bourrée is a folk dance from the Auvergne region which in the 17th century gained popularity on the French royal court. Before Chopin, Bach and Handel composed works based on the musical form of this dance.

French flute player, François Lazarevitch, together with a group of friends gathered in the band Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, for several years has achieved success in presenting musical phenomena created on the verge of French folk and artistic music. In the first this year project, at the festival MAZOVIA GOES BAROQUE, the band presents French folk music in its historical form (compositions from the CD Danses des bergers, danses des loups, 2005), and it will invite the audience to the 19th century salon where old melodies, songs and dances started to lead a new life thanks to arrangements, transcriptions and harmonizations made by the most outstanding contemporary at that time in Paris composers (compositions from the CD La Veillée imaginaire, 2009). Among the artists there are, apart from Fryderyk Chopin, also Joseph Canteloube, Maurice Emmanuel, Emmanuel Chabrier or Georges Bizet.

Both concerts start at 6.00 pm. In the Warsaw Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio. On Saturday evening, Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien perform the programme La Veillée imaginaire – folk music in Paris salons; and on Sunday, they present the programme titled des bergers, danses des loups – folk music from the heart of France. The band gathers the following artists:

Françoise Masset – soprano
François Lazarevitch – flute traverso, bagpipes, singing, musical director
Basile Brémaud – violin, singing
Anne-Lise Foy – hurdy gurdy, singing
Daria Fadeeva – piano, singing
