HE WILL PLAY AND PLAY...

Well-known Japanese pianist Yukio Yokoyama is going to perform without scores the 18-hours long piano recital covering 212 compositions by Fryderyk Chopin.

The concert in the Tokyo opera will start on May 3, at 8.00 am. (that is 1.00 pm. Polish time) and it will end at about 2.00 pm. of the next day (that is 7.30 pm. of the Polish time). During the performance the pianist will have several short intermissions. The concert is open to broad public and it is going to be transmitted by one of the Tokyo radio stations.

In May, 2010, in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth, Yokoyama performed in chronological order 166 compositions by the mentioned musician. The artist is the Guiness record holder in the category "the greatest number of compositions performed by one artist solo during 24 hours". At the press conference the pianist assured that the goal of his most recent attempt is not beating his own record, but "better understanding of Chopin and presenting his music to a broader group of people. I am still trying to verify how I could get closer to the Composer", Yukio Yokoyama informed journalists.

Yukio Yokoyama was born in 1971. He already started his studies at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 16. In 1990, when he received his diploma, he also won the 3rd prize at the 12th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw. During the Chopin year he performed among others in the Polish film "Chopin Reloaded".
