On the 8th of February in the Prague Bethlehem Chapel the Kwadrofonik quartet performs a concert closing the Chopin Year in the Czech Republic.

The Polish group presents the project called "I was here, Fryderyk". Artists, famous for their folk interpretations present folk interpretations of Fryderyk Chopin music.

The concert is as if a fictitious tale, a fantasy about what the Composer could have heard in folk music, what he paid special attention to just before his departure from Poland and what precious melodies he retained for himself in order to make use of them later on in his preludes, mazurkas, sonatas. Two pianos and rich percussion instruments set allow for combining authentic raw folk music with quotations of Chopin works belonging to the upper sphere of music literature.

Kwadrofonik was created as a combination of two duos: piano and percussion. Its members are: Emilia Sitarz and Bartłomiej Wąsik (Lutosławski Piano Duo) together with Magdalena Kordylasińska and Miłosz Pękala (Hob-beats Duo). The quartet’s career started in 2006 when it won in a spectacular style the 9th Festival of Folk Music "New Tradition" (pl. 9. Festiwal Muzyki Folkowej "Nowa Tradycja",) when musicians were awarded Grand Prix, the Audience Prize and the Prize of the President of the City of Warsaw. The music critics recognized the fact that the musical discoveries of the group trace new trends in folk music.

The quartet’s performances are characterised by precision and liveliness. Musicians during work on their compositions often walk the path of improvisation and sound search to maximise the use of possibilities of two pianos and percussion.

The concert of the Kwadrofonik group closes the Chopin Year and inaugurates two concert cycles in the Czech Republic: the Polish Salon and the Ambassadors Concert Series.

Below you will find an excerpt of the project "I was Here. Fryderyk" performed by the Kwadrofonik Group.
