Mini pianos’ charm

The Entropy Gallery (pl. Galeria Entropia) in Wrocław, on the 2nd of November organizes an interesting cultural event related to the Chopin Year celebrations.

In the Gallery’s seat, at 18.00, three events will take place - a concert, the world premiere of a CD and a book and the opening of the exhibition. They have common title of: "Small Instruments Play Chopin. Toy piano Phenomenon – Joy of Experimenting" (pl. "Małe instrumenty grają Chopina. Fenomen Toy piano – radość eksperymentu").

Toy piano is a miniature keyboard instrument and a toy in one. At present it is used both by composers and by modern musicians, among others by Paweł Romańczuk, the founder of the music group called "Small Instruments" (pl. "Małe Instrumenty"). The group specializes in performing on tiny instruments and it will perform a concert during the evening in the Entropy Gallery. The performing artists are: Maciek BączykJędrzej Kuziela and Paweł Romańczuk.

The concert in the Entropy Gallery is dedicated to presentation of the most recent recordings of the group which has just completed work on a new disc. The works of the most famous Polish composer are interpreted in an innovative way. Innovative interpretation of Fryderyk Chopin’s music allowed for fuller exploration of the "toy piano" domain. It is the first time that we dedicate a concert to a very selected sound colors – almost 20 small pianos, upright pianos and harpsichords will be used in interpretations of romantic music. Minor-autumn aura of the music is complimented by surprising experiments with instruments, courageously inviting the listener to the unusual culture of "toy piano", says Paweł Romańczuk.

The CD is promoted together with the book concerning the phenomenon of miniature instruments. It consists of detailed description of world music culture related to the use of toy piano, and a type of guide into the space of experiment in modern music. The book has illustrations and photographs of several dozens various instruments coming mainly from the private collection of Paweł Romańczuk.

The exhibition is open only until November 5. It features the collection of toy pianos presented in the book.
