The Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Katowice, Poland, is celebrating its 75 years of existance this year. A special preformance will mark the occassion.

On Friday, October 1st, at 7.30 p.m., the Orchestra's music director Jacek Kasprzyk will conduct this season's first subscription concert. Held at the Orchestra's headquarters, the event will feature Fryderyk Chopin's Prelude in C-sharp minor Op. 45, instrumentalised by Charles Bodman Rae, on the Orchestra's special commission. Charles Bodman Rae is a Scottish musicologist and composer, whose fascination with Polish music pushed him to learn the Polish language and write a book on Lutosławski. Rae intends his transcription to prove that Chopin's output opened the way for Richard Wagner's and Gustav Mahler's music.

The Orhcestra's performance of the prelude will be the composition's world premiere. Also featured will be Wesendonk-Lieder by Richard Wagner, with Germany's opera singer Lioba Braun singing the mezzo soprano part, and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor.
