The National Edition of Chopin’s Works Completed

The National Edition collecting Fryderyk Chopin’s all works has been completed. Marking the occasion, the publisher, Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (PWM) and the Foundation for the National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin are holding a meeting with the collection’s authors: Professor Jan Ekiert, editor Paweł Kamiński and PWM’s Editor-in-Chief Andrzej Kosowski.

The meeting will be hosted by Poland’s culture minister Bogdan Zdrojewski. The artistic part will feature Michał Kozłowski playing Chopin’s compositions.

Come and meet the authors on Monday, August 30th, 2010, 12 o’clock, at Kordegarda Chopin 2010 (15/17 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, Warsaw).

The National Edition is the first ever collection of Chopin’s complete works. It aims to gather all of Chopin’s surviving compositions in their original form, mainly for the sake of performers. The publication embraces sheet music, fragments of Chopin’s correspondence, as well as recollections from his pupils and friends.

The collection encompasses 37 volumes, including ballades, mazurkas, nocturnes, sonatas and etudes, concert pieces, Polonaise in E-flat major and Fantasy on Polish Airs.

The rules and regulations of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw recommend that the contestants use the National Edition.
