- Kordegarda CHOPIN 2010
The new Chopin Year information centre Kordegarda CHOPIN 2010 opened on 27 February 2010 in Warsaw.
The centre presents rotating exhibitions devoted to the composer, along with films, concert recordings and previews of the most significant Chopin events in Poland and abroad. It also acts as a tourist information centre. The facility is run by the Chopin 2010 Celebrations Office in collaboration with the Warsaw Tourist Office.
Located on Warsaw’s main tourist route – Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, Kordegarda CHOPIN 2010 is a vibrant hub where Warsaw residents and tourists may personally experience the work of Chopin and other artists whom he inspired. The centre has the twofold goal of informing about the various anniversary events held in the Chopin Year and raising public awareness about the composer, by unveiling the multidimensional character of his person and highlighting the best Chopin recordings, publications and resources of the chopin2010.pl portal.
Kordegarda CHOPIN 2010 holds rotating exhibitions planned in monthly time spans. They aim to widen the perception of Chopin’s music and explore how he influenced visual artists, photographers, cartoonists and musicians now and in the past. Kordegarda also presents exciting posters and winning works in various Chopin Year competitions. The first to come: Edward Hartwig’s photography exhibition A Meeting with Chopin, open throughout March 2010.
At Kordegarda you will find brochures exploring Warsaw and places connected
with the composer, leaflets presenting the Chopin Route and monthly overviews
of Chopin events to be held in Poland. Kordegarda’s shop offers topical books, CDs
and gadgets. An additional multimedia display showcases the www.chopin2010.pl portal and special window screens show videos promoting the Chopin Year
and previews of upcoming events.
The special space arrangement enables visitors to freely browse through books, listen to CDs and watch films and slideshows displayed on a video wall.
Kordegarda will be resounding with Chopin’s music not only thanks to the CDs
and films featured. The centre hosts a grand piano – everybody willing and able to play it, has a chance to perform a Chopin composition just for themselves, their friends
or other visitors. To top it all, the little concert may be recorded for the performer
on a CD.
